The Return to Vanity

July 18, 2011 by barffie

It has been a while since I stopped wearing contact lenses. I have been wearing glasses on a regular basis about 2 years back, I supposed. One, it was laziness. Two, the cost. Three, the dryness was annoying me. And so I stopped.

My new pair of Vivienne Westwood glasses weren’t that comfortable, I guess the lens were not calibrated properly. I don’t have any problem with my prescription sunnies, so that was the conclusion that I derived – that my new glasses were not made properly. I would probably go get them fixed next month.

Then the vanity struck. I looked like a dork most of the times I wore glasses, due to my preference for black rimmed plastic frames. And I am honestly feeling ugly. Was apprehensive about wearing contacts again, because I had a nasty eye infection earlier this year from wearing a pair of dailies. It could be the make up brushes that were contaminated, we couldn’t be sure – so it’s better to stay safe and to stay away from contacts.

So, I bought a box of my regular contacts on Saturday and wore them out for the rest of the day. Although the eyes felt a little dry, it was nothing I couldn’t handle. One thing – I loved having my peripheral vision back! I enjoyed the ride through the hills of NTU that night tremendously.

The problem with thick, black rimmed glasses is that I lose my peripheral vision, which I definitely need during long cycling sessions so that I could keep a sharp eye (haha) on my surroundings all the time. Not to mention my glasses fog up from the heat generated by my body after a workout – which is soooooo annoying.

So yeah. I think it’s time for contacts again… and I was actually looking at coloured lenses – oh my… they are expensive.
