Retchtro Series #02 : Health Screening

by barffie

Went for a health check up this morning and it was a quick one because there wasn’t any ECG test nor any X-Rays to be taken. Should have gone on my company’s medical plan instead, so I can do all these things all over again because I love them so much!!!

Never.

Last year, I had a health scare because my gynae told me I had PCOS (Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome) and the health screening results told me I had some kind of abnormal ECG results, and the blood test revealed that I have high triglyceride levels which is probably genetic. And at the end of the year I was diagnosed with slipped disc. Wow wow wow.

I went to a heart specialist for various scary tests like the stress ECG test which means I had to run on a treadmill with wires sticking out of me until I couldn’t run anymore. I also did a electrocardiogram, which is basically an ultrasound scan of my heart chambers and its functions. I also did a CT scan for a calcium score test, to see if my arteries were blocked.

All tests came out normal, and the doctor told me I probably just had a slightly unusual heart which is still working pretty well. He gave me some scary medication to lower my triglyceride levels which will give me hot flushes (my face will turn red so I have to take it before bed).

After a while, I stopped going to the heart specialist and instead went to TCM to get my body adjusted back, slowly.

So I also got a bad back which meant I was referred to a Orthopedic specialist and I had to go through the MRI to get the results… which is a disc prolapse at L4 and L5. Something like that.

I went through several months of intensive physiotherapy and am much better now. But it is a condition that will have to be managed for life to prevent it from getting worse or having a relapse. I am glad I am in control of my body, finally.

So during the later part of the year I actually slimmed down, losing 10kg after adjusting my diet and swimming more often… which is a good “side-effect” of trying to get my health back on form! I started taking Omega 3 supplements and daily multi-vitamins, I also feel better and more energetic now!

So back to the health screening… I should have booked the appointment before I went on my Japan and KL trips! I was 1kg lighter and was much fitter.

Oh well. Back to the diet!!!
