Home Improvement Projects #1.

It’s been a good 4 years since we’ve moved in to our little nest in the West, and you know… things eventually and inevitably fall apart :(

Problem:
The handle of the tap in our bedroom’s bathroom broke off. I think we were too violent with it.
Solution:
Time to replace that tap. It will cost us around $170 for the long stemmed type. We haven’t got it yet.

Problem:
Some serious reorg of the study room and the boy’s Man Cave has to be done. The mess! Oh, the mess!
Solution:
We need bigger, better shelving units. Off to Ikea we went today and spent $398 on an Expedit unit and a Lack unit.
They are too heavy and bulky for us to put together ourselves, especially not with my bad back.
We paid for delivery and assembly charges. That’d cost us around $70+.
We’ll rearrange and throw out junk from both rooms.
Which will make us feel more shiok.

Problem:
The rivets on our windows are a little rusted off… and according to HDB ruling, we need to get them checked and replaced.
Solution:
Get a good window contractor as listed on the website. $40 for a site check, and $1 per rivet. Hmm.

Problem:
Bright morning light shines in from the side window and it disturbs me, a rather light sleeper.
Said window is not darkly tinted to my preference, that’s why.
Solution:
Measure the window and then get tinted window film from DIY stores. Soap up the window and use a squeegeeeee to slowly apply the film. Should be quite easy? P/S I can’t believe I’ve put this off for the last 4 years!?!?!

Problem:
Hate the curtains in my master bedroom. The colour is wrong and it drapes awful. It lets me hide junk behind it – which is a VERY bad thing. I need something that doesn’t get sucked into the fan all the time.
Solution:
Replace with neat, opaque roller blinds. Have not found a curtain supplier yet. Not difficult as there are recommendations from friends.

Problem:
Ventilation inside the master bedroom and study/guest room is not optimal. We have to keep the windows closed at all times to prevent our cats from jumping out our windows.
Solution:
Get MagicSeal to come in and fix the magnetic insect netting thingy. Not cheap. But eventually we have to do it for our long-term benefit. Good ventilation is necessary for improved health and quality of life.

Problem:
The “locks” on our default plasticky HDB bi-fold doors are dying because we lock them all the time to prevent the cats from entering the bathrooms and get their paws wet. Latte loves to scratch on the master bedroom bathroom’s door – which is annoying.
Solution:
Replace said doors. Need better solutions than the current plastic combo. Hate the usual aluminum type with the awful lock from the inside. Not sure what other alternatives. Not cheap. But arggghhhh.

We love our home and we want to improve it to make it a better place for me and him! So… to MAKE more moolah now!

eh babe, the window tint from the diy stores aren’t that great leh. which was why i eventually paid S$1K to get the professional window tint installers to do it. there’s a difference between the diy tint films and the professional ones. apparently, the diy ones only keep out uv, they do not exactly keep out sunlight. better also check whether it’s hdb approved in case you have issues with the town council. i had to buy a more expensive tint film because my mgmt corporation said not dark enough.. -.-”
