Too Fast Too Furious.
Nope, this is not a story about me racing with another dude or something. This is something more furious than fast. In fact, it took place way below 50km/hr.
Basically, last night around 7.10pm or so, I encountered a horrendous taxi driver.
This is what transpired:
I was on the 2nd lane and had signaled to move to the 3rd lane when the taxi behind was still some distance away. As I was filtering into the 3rd lane, I noticed that the taxi behind me had sped up, and so I avoided any problem by swerving back into the 2nd lane and horned at the driver as a warning. After which, I stayed behind the taxi as we are about to turn left at the T-junction.
After we have turned left, the taxi waited for me on the leftmost lane, and after I have passed him, he drove right behind me, tailgated me for a few hundred metres and high-beamed his lights all the way. I slowed down to around 50km/hr, fearing for my personal safety.
Then, he moved very quickly to my right, driving just inches away from my car, and made faces at me. I was quite frightened so I kept on driving straight. But all of a sudden, he swerved dangerously right in front of my car, and jammed his brakes to a full stop. I had to do an emergency brake in order not to collide with his taxi.
This would spell bad news for me if I had really hit his taxi at the back as it would appear to be my fault. The road was quite clear at this point, so there was no excuse for him to swerve in front of my car to jam his brakes so hard.
Fortunately, I had slowed down in the first place so I managed to stop in time before any tragic accident could have happened. After the near-collision, he moved off very slowly, driving at around 30km/hr in front of me, but I was able to filter to the lane on the right of him to turn right into a road that led to the highway, thus escaping from further bully attacks from this dangerous driver.

I made a police report last night, and then emailed the CEO of ComfortDelGro Taxis. I urged them to take this dangerous and reckless driver off the roads before he causes a real tragedy.

Disclaimer:
My own dad was a taxi driver, so I usually emphatised with them if they are rushing madly, very sleepy or plain aggressive because they drive long hours and money’s hard to earn – but this? It takes the bloody cake!
I have driven almost every day for 6 months and have never encountered anybody who actually made a planned attack on me, simply because I horned at him for speeding up when I was about to cut into his lane (let’s face it, many drivers do that – I’m used to it!).

why are you forever complaining about other “reckless” drivers on the road?
maybe you should go brush up your driving skills and also get used to driving on our roads. if you find it such a challenge, maybe you’re better off racing cars on a playstation.

X: And you approve of this sort of road behaviour? Barffie’s point is that that taxi driver is a bully. And not just some driver who didn’t check his blind spot before changing lanes.
And why should we get used to the “recklessness” of other drivers especially when their actions could potentially injure someone or take away a person’s life?

Thanks Babywombat! Perhaps this person doesn’t drive… or not often enough. It’s ok lah.

@x: There’s a big difference between having lousy driving skills and a reckless driver but I think your brain isn’t quite capable of understanding the difference.

Barffie: Heh. Can’t help it that reckless drivers and road bullies piss me off. Got buang-ed twice by such people before and this was when my car was stationary!

*shudder* I hope no one has to encounter things like that again! Eeks! I have gotten used to the usual abrupt lane-cutters, non-signaling, tailgating folks… But this? Sigh…
