Velvet Night Out

by barffie

had a great night last night.
got some free invite to Velvet…
finals of the Heineken DJ competition thingy…
i went alone. much to the wonder of a few of my frens…

but i wanna try clubbing alone, and see what it could bring for me.

i reached Velvet early. Maybe an hour too early.
but i placed myself right beside the dancefloor,
at a corner facing the DJ console… :D

then i waited. alone. watching the place SLOWLY fill up.
and wondering when someone would come and share my table w me.

then this guy finally asked, together w 2 of his friends…
turned out he works in MTV Mobile,
under my old big boss (Lee Cheok Yew)…
and he’s some happening marketing cum PR guy…

so i made myself some new frens!
they were frenly and offered me drinks also,
which i couldn’t resist…
so i drank with them the Cocoa Haze,
mixed from vodka, peach cooler, apple schnapp…
nice, light drink… :P ~~~
and vodka redbull…

i tried lychee martini finally… YUM!! i like!

know a girl named Hui-something, din manage to get her number.
she’s a lawyer. a boozehead. very nice and frenly girl.
chatty, very chatty.

nickey. chio asian looking babe hailing from shanghai.
not cheena at all, and is a student from lasalle.
she dance very well indeed! got the attention of al the gwailohs!

ivy. hip party girl. very friendly and not as wild as nickey.
student in MDIS, and jus lives across the street from Zouk!
a little more reserved, but seemingly more sincere. :P

danny. the mtv mobile guy. UBER frenly n UBER party head.
will be at Zouk almost every Friday night. WHEE!!!
he can sign me in to Velvet next time. >:)

another guy whom din appear to be too frenly.
works with WKRZ. he’s into house music, so he’s in his element!

these few ppl liked the 1st DJ Feng better,
he plays deep house and more groovy tunes…
the other DJ Mervin (i think) plays hard house, n tribal-tech…
what Singaporeans usually like…
so no prizes for guessing who won.

guess deep house n disco-influenced dance music
is still a very niche market huh.
look at the crowd at the Global Underground arena,
and compare w those at Velvet Underground arena at Zoukout.

YAY! new cheongster frens!
but i broke nehhh… how to be able to tahan???

then on my way out i met into Mervyn n Steven.
used to be my colleagues at Mediasucks.
Mervyn is now doing Advertising and Promotions with Europa grp.
so see when got cheonging trips, can call him!!!

Steven is doing retail with Billabong n some other surfer wear.
so next time if i wanna buy beachy-wear – can call him!
SHIOK!

wheee, then i went with them to Zouk,
and witnessed for myself the plight of Mambo Jumbo nights.
HORROR HORROR.
synchronised actions. perfect lip-synching to RETRO, TOP 40 tracks.

not to mention there were a couple of transvetites,
and horrifying gay men who acted like DIVAS and action many many!
URGHHHHHH… … pukology…

famous DJs, Christian Smith and Tiesto marvelled at the sight before them.
they were standing right beside us.
and i bet they got some negative culture shock.
it’s like the ah bengs doing their kungfu-dance fusion moves.
we feasted our eyes on a snogging couple too…
HORROR HORROR.
but pure entertainment.

Yes i am a clubbing snob u may call me.
but i like the music, the crowd, and the atmosphere of Velvet.
no doubt about that.
the giant Keith Haring installation.
the Andy Warhol rendition of The Scream.
the Phillipe Starck seats and the luminous bar counter.
i like… … …

guess cheonging alone has it’s benefits.
u’ll have more of a chance to blend into another grp of ppl.
if not we’ll always just mingle among our own frens ma…

all in all, i had great fun last night.

oh, and did i mention this long-haired girl came up to me and said,
“You are very hot!” OMG OMG.
this happened on the dance floor.
and she proceeded to dance dirty (sort of) and rub up against me.
WOAH, i was flattered, and a little embarrassed.
but i played along oso la… :D
then i went off with my new-found frens, she stayed on e dancefloor.

hmm, i kena hit on by a char bor sial… XP
